WATERFALL WALK (Maspie Den)
PATHS Footing is good, occasional slippy patches

Walk through the village past the square to the West Port. Continue ahead past the road to the craigmead car park till you see the gates of the school ahead.

Pause to admire the duck pond on the left.

Continue along the drive past the road up to the school. Just after the school, a road goes up to the left opposite a rusty blister hut. Just before the turn, you will see an opening in the fence and a path which crosses the burn on a narrow bridge. Cross the bridge and follow the stream up past the school.

You will go under an arch which takes another road over to the school.

Further up you will find a tunnel which is half carved through the rock and half built with stone and brick. It is a feature of the estate garden.

Follow the path up to a forestry trail. You have to go up on to it and slightly right. Cross the road and go through the gate.

Following the Den, you will come to a little falls and further up to a thin water fall which plunges four metres down from a rocky ledge. It is possible to walk under the ledge behind the fall and up the hill and round again back to the fall.

Further up, you can reach the Craigmead road.

The Den is a good place to rest and contemplate the beauty of nature.

The tunnel curves but is not completely dark; although a torch might be useful. Footing is good, but here and there further up the path you may encounter greasy bits of the path or fallen branches.
